Handling Financial Problems
When you reach this point, your feelings of helplessness can become so overwhelming that you literally seem to stop functioning in this real world.

Here are some useful tips on how to deal with financial problems:

  • Acceptance. The problem with denial is that it works -- at least for a while. However, the problem will continue to grow. Paying attention to something that causes us emotional strain can be difficult, but it is essential. When you are tempted to ignore a financial problems, get a piece of paper and write down the consequences of ignoring the problem. Put it in the context of time -- a week, months and years.

  • Spend within your means. Money coming in should balance money coming out. Better if there is money left for savings or emergency. Simple arithmetic helps you to understand that savings is the difference between your earnings and what you spend. To increase your savings, you either have to work more or spend less. For most people, the "spend less" approach is the key to building savings and wealth.

  • Steer clear of those who pressure you to make decisions, promising high investment returns, and lack the proper training and experience to help you. Also, if you do your grocery, go for the unbranded, not famous or house brands. Usually, they have same ingredients or quality as with branded items. Needless to say, compare prices to get the most out of your money.

  • Do not use credit card if you cannot fully pay it when it is due. Buying on credit encourages you to spend more than you can really afford. Do not go into the habit of paying the minimum only, this will definitely bring your finances in deep trouble.

  • Always plan for big expenses, make sure there is money allocated to pay for it. If you're married, plan and budget your finances with your spouse. It's best that both of you know where your money goes.

  • Find other means of earning extra income. As an example, there are a lot of ways offered online that are free or almost free (i.e. affiliate programs, online business, etc.) to setup. Ask from friends who can give you useful suggestions. There's a way to start an online business with the least possible investment. I have found a website, www.valuewebonline.com, that shows you how. When you have financial problems it usually doesn't take very long for you to realize who really cares about you and who your true friends are.  Your friends will support you in your time of need, offer encouragement, and lend an ear so you can just tell your worries to them.

Also, bear in mind that too much emphasis on making and saving money can warp your perspective on what's important in life. Money is not the first or even close to second priority in happy people's lives. Your health, relationships with family and friends, career satisfaction, and fulfilling interests should be more important.

Financial stress is usual if you are forced into frugality because of a lost job, being over your head in debt, and other financial issues.

Problems like this can lead to health problems and feelings of insecurity, fear, anxiety, anger, and depression. It can also lead you to make bad money management decisions which could lead to heavy debt loads, and start a vicious cycle of stress, depression, anxiety and panic that never seems to end.
